$1.285 Billion In Ads

March Madness is here and so are the mega numbers that accompany the tournament from both a rights fee and advertising perspective. When compared to the postseasons of other professional sports, March Madness pulls in more revenue than every other league outside of the NFL. With $1.285 billion in ad revenue in 2017, according to Kantar Media, college basketball found itself $400 million behind the NFL and $300 million ahead of the NBA.

$8.5 Billion In Bets

Some 47 million people are expected to wager a total of $8.5 billion on the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, according to the American Gaming Association.

That compares to a forecasted $325 million bet on the Super Bowl.

$96 Million In Salary

There are 68 teams that make up the men’s bracket of the NCAA’s March Madness tournament and this year, 47 are public universities.

Overall, those coaches make a combined $96,259,815, or $2,139,107 on average.

What is that in terms of return-on-investment?

According to Joe Setyon at Reason, John Calipari at Kentucky does make $7.95 million per year, but the school’s basketball program brought in $49.7 million on average over the past several seasons for a $22.9 million annual average profit.
