Well That Was Interesting

I guess the Santa Claus rally is back on track!

Today ~5% rally erased the Christmas Eve sell-off and most of last weeks losses. Notice I said nothing about points. The absolute points gain or loss DOES NOT MATTER, the PERCENTAGE DOES!

But please whatever you do stay calm and use this historic rally to reassess your portfolio and mindset.

Here is what you should do. If you felt despondent or became angry on Christmas Eve seeing the markets deep in the red, now is the time to do something about it – even at the margin. If you can’t sleep at night, your true risk tolerance has reared its head, so pay attention.

The broad markets were remarkable oversold coming into trading today by almost every metric. Thus it is not surprising we rallied.

A note of caution: rallies and sell-offs of the magnitude we have seen just within the last two trading days are not typical of bull markets.

Every day is the best day to improve your portfolio positioning.
